Claydies

Claydies has existed since 2000 and they are recognised for their conceptual aproach to ceramics and arts and crafts in general. They use topics far away from the traditional ceramic workfield to emphasize the story about the ceramic piece.

Their products often originate in old techniques and traditions in the crafts field and by renewing them, they aim to give specific working-methods new life.

Claydies are two people: Ms. Karen Kjældgård-Larsen and Ms. Tine Broksø. Their conceptual approach has made it possible for them to work together within one artistic identity.

They handmake their products in their workshop in Copenhagen NV.

Sophie

Sophie is Claydies’ own floral engobe decoration, made with an old potters technique, where the wet slip runs through a small hole in a flask (in the old days a feather attached to a cows horn). The decoration points out the tradition without being old-fashioned. True feelings tea light holder

True feelings is a product range that truly carries our fingerprints.

Claydies has based the development of the series on an experiment with dogma rules. One of the rules was to work blindfolded. Focus was transferred from a visual approach to design to the sense of touch. The design became an expression of the fingers’ choice only. The result is a unique, sensitive and elegant design. Unrefined and romantic!

True feelings tea light holder is hand-modelled in porcelain clay. It is fired to 1280 degrees Celcius with a transparent glaze. The finger modelling gives the candle holder a nice glow with a lit tea light in it.

We are fund of ceramics and Claydies ceramic design

The Nordic countries are well known for ceramics design and have been for generations. Back in history the Vikings traded in ceramics when they travelled the would. The tradition is alive and kicking and the number of high quality craftsmen…and girls is still increasing. Claydies is so much more than ceramic design. The girls behind have been followed by lots of happy Scandinavian clay enthusiasts for a number of years, due to a different approach to creativity and creation. Even in the early beginning the team gut awarded for a range of ceramic bolls that delighted a vast crowd in the designer world, hence a nomination and later the prize for best new product creation – later the same year they participated in a TV program about craftsmanship and design.
